Our Mission

Womanade at The Pinehills was started by Pinehills resident Cheryl O’Grady, who in 2006 read a Boston Globe article about a Hingham, MA women’s group raising money over potluck dinners for neighbors in need. Twenty women attended the first organizational meeting in April 2006, inspired to bring that same community and helping hand to the wider Plymouth community.

How It Started

The concept began with a group of women in the Washington, D.C. area who gathered for potluck dinners and donated what they would have spent going out to eat into a group fund to help their community. Word spread through newspaper articles, and women in towns across the country — including Hingham, MA — began replicating the idea. Cheryl O’Grady brought it to The Pinehills, and by March 2007, Womanade at The Pinehills had become a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Our Focus

The group’s focus is providing financial assistance to families with children in the Plymouth Public School System. By working closely with a liaison in the schools, we connect with families experiencing short-term emergency financial issues — and we make every effort to provide assistance without ever knowing the family’s name, protecting their privacy.

Membership

Womanade at The Pinehills is open to all female residents of The Pinehills. Membership consists of signing up for our email list, attending our bi-monthly meetings, and providing financial support for our mission. The work of the group is carried out by a Board of Directors made up of no more than 20 women.
